T1D Spotlight – Camille

Camille is a 9-year-old cheerleader, gymnast and Type 1 Diabetic. She enjoys jumping on the trampoline in her free time and hanging out with her best friends. When Camille was two, she and her siblings had the stomach virus. Everyone else got better except for her. Thankfully, her grandmother knew the signs of Type 1 Diabetes and took her to the doctor. 7 years later, she says “I like having diabetes. It’s good being different and you can educate others with it.”

Camille has attended Fall Family Camp, the Birmingham WALK for Camp Seale Harris, and Junior Overnight Camp. “I felt good after my first time at Camp Seale Harris. I want to go back soon. I love Camp Seale Harris because I get to hang out with all of my friends that are just like me.”

Camille’s advice to a newly diagnosed T1D is this: “My best friends always tell me you can do anything even though you have diabetes – you really can!”
